Job Description

Mechanical Chargehand

£28139 p.a. plus an allowance for participation in the out-of-hours roster

Estates & Facilities

The main purpose of the post is the operation and maintenance of mechanical services within a designated geographical area of the University. The role involves the undertaking of planned and reactive maintenance tasks and the supervision of direct labour and contractors. This includes the issue of risk assessments and work orders, and carrying out all tasks with regard to health and safety legislation.

You will have served a mechanical trade apprenticeship followed by significant experience in a building services environment. You will have experience of gas-fired boilers, low-pressure hot water heating systems, and ventilation systems. Familiarity with ‘Trend’ building management systems would be an advantage. Competence to work on gas appliances in accordance with the requirements of the Gas Safe Register would also be an advantage.

You are required to participate in the chargehands’ shift and call out roster and live within reasonable travelling distance of the University. Ownership of a means of transport and a clean driving licence are also required.
